Halloween/Scooter Game
Students explore moving with control on their scooters
travelling in open spaces. They create a
variety of ways to move, including body parts, pathways, speeds, directions and
levels. As each class demonstrates control and understanding, we begin to play games
which allow students to practice their skill of moving with control and also
having to create strategies to be successful in the game. The games begin with
limited information for the students to process and become more complex as the
unit progresses. The culminating
activity is the “Halloween Game” which is played at the end of October. The gym
is filled with obstacles for students to go under, around and thru. Students strategize ways to successfully
travel from one end of the gym from “Home Sweet Home” to the opposite end “Happy
Harry’s House”, to gather “candy” to bring back home. While attempting this, there are other
students or teachers trying to prevent them from succeeding. These are games labeled chasing and fleeing
activities. Eventually, some of the lights are turned off, Halloween music is
played and string lights are hung throughout the gym for a stimulating
environment.
